About the Czech Dálniční Známka

The Czech motorway e-vignette (dálniční známka) is mandatory for all passenger vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes using motorways (dálnice, prefix D) and some expressways in the Czech Republic. Since 2021, the Czech vignette has been exclusively electronic — no physical sticker is issued.

Unlike Switzerland's single annual option, the Czech system offers three validity periods: 10 days, 30 days, or 12 months. Prices start from €25 (CZK 300) for a 10-day pass, making it an affordable option for short transits or holiday trips.

Your vignette is registered in the SFDI (Road Directorate) national database and linked to your license plate. Automated cameras across Czech motorways verify your plate against the database — no physical document to carry or show.

Vehicles Exempt from the Czech Vignette

  • Fully electric vehicles (BEV) — completely free
  • Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles — exempt
  • Motorcycles and mopeds — no vignette required
  • Emergency vehicles (police, ambulance, fire)
  • Military vehicles on official duty
  • Diplomatic vehicles with CD plates

Heavy Goods Vehicles

Over 3.5 tonnes GVW

Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes do not use the e-vignette system. Instead, they are subject to the Czech electronic toll system (mýtný systém) — a distance-based fee charged per kilometre using an on-board unit.

Czech electronic toll is managed by the Czech Road Directorate (SFDI). On-board units (OBU) are required.

Which Roads Require the Vignette?

The Czech e-vignette is required on motorways (dálnice) prefixed with D and selected expressways (silnice pro motorová vozidla). These are the high-speed roads connecting Czech cities and border crossings.

Standard national roads, regional routes, city streets, and most dual-carriageways do not require a vignette. You can navigate through Czech towns and use regional roads freely.

Requires Vignette

  • All D-roads (motorways / dálnice)
  • Selected expressways (silnice pro mot. vozidla)
  • Bypass sections on the national motorway network
  • Border approach roads on motorway network

No Vignette Needed

  • City streets and urban roads
  • National roads (silnice I. třídy)
  • Regional and local roads
  • Most dual-carriageways not on motorway network
