Czech Republic Vignette FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Czech e-vignette (dálniční známka)

The Czech e-vignette is available in three validity periods: 10 days (~€12.60), 30 days (~€19.50), and 12 months (~€101).

No. Only motorways (dálnice, marked D) and some expressways (silnice pro motorová vozidla) require a vignette. Regular roads, city streets, and many dual-carriageways are free to use without a vignette.

Yes. Fully electric vehicles (BEV) and hydrogen vehicles are currently exempt from the Czech e-vignette requirement. Hybrid vehicles (PHEV/HEV) are NOT exempt and must have a valid vignette.

No. Motorcycles (vehicles under a certain weight/classification) are exempt from the Czech e-vignette. The vignette applies to passenger cars and light vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.

Driving without a valid e-vignette on Czech motorways can result in a fine of up to CZK 20,000 (~€800) imposed by the Road Directorate or police. Officers can check vignette validity remotely using your license plate.

Your e-vignette validity starts on the date you select during registration. It is activated electronically and typically appears in the official database within minutes of your registration being processed.

Czech police and the Road Directorate (SFDI) use automated plate-recognition cameras and mobile scanners to verify vignette validity. There are no physical tollbooths — enforcement is entirely electronic.

Refund requests can be submitted up to 24 hours before the vignette validity start date. Once a vignette is active (validity period has started), it cannot be refunded. Please see our Refund Policy for full details.
